Architectural, interiors and masterplanning firm Du Bose Associates, based in Hartford, CT, since 1958 with a branch office in Westerly, Rhode Island, is joining Tecton Architects, also located in Hartford, a privately held firm established in 1979. Formalizing the relationship under the Tecton name, the company will retain the Du Bose professional team from Hartford and maintain the firm’s Westerly, R.I., offices, enhancing the firm’s capabilities in specialized education markets and increasing its creative and planning resources.
“We are at an exciting point in time for Tecton. We’ve had our eye on expanding resources and market verticals for some time. With Du Bose, we can grow the firm’s expertise in specialized education and unite with a team of highly respected and talented professionals,” said Ted Cutler, a Tecton Principal.
According to Tecton, the second largest architecture firm in Hartford and third largest in the region, the two firms will forge one organization adept at fortifying new market and project opportunities, particularly in the “school of choice” and higher education sectors where Du Bose has garnered high recognition. From its inception, the Tecton founders structured its firm to be market diverse and innovative in its approach to design. The unification with Du Bose allows Tecton to further cultivate its original vision of innovation and diversity, with the flexibility to expand key verticals.
“Having worked together previously and knowing how well we complement each other, we see that joining forces will benefit both firms. With the ability to retain our professional staff, we are intent on making a seamless and positive transition,” said Craig Saunders, now Associate Principal of Tecton and formerly Chairman of Du Bose Associates.
The union also allows both firms to carry on their commitment to the prosperity of the Hartford region while expanding resources in the Northeast. The Du Bose team in Hartford is currently relocating to Tecton’s offices at One Hartford Square West. The Westerly, Rhode Island office will remain at its current location.
