Drew Baxter is suspected of having PTSD when injured in Fallujah. After many months of agonizing recovery at VA hospitals, he moves to Las Vegas, loses his money and becomes a vagrant. Drew’s life seems to be back on track, with the help of a psychiatrist, who diagnoses Drew's compulsive disorder, while he lives alone in Lavallette on the Jersey shore. A brief stint at a stuffy office ends badly, but he's excited to land a job at the bustling political headquarters of Barnegat Junction, where he meets the alluring Angie. However, everything isn’t quite as it seems in Mayor Jorgenson’s administration.

As Drew investigates the corruption in the mayor’s office, his romance with Angie becomes more serious. Through research and with Angie’s support, Drew helps the FBI get to the bottom of the illegal happenings in the small new town, and eventually he moves on to become a paralegal with a large law firm. Through continuing therapy and with Angie’s love, he learns to cope with past tragedies and his compulsive disorder. Just when his life settles down, the past revisits him in a most terrifying manner. Will Drew be able to overcome the dangers that beset him?
