Badminton Gardens hairdressing salon threw open its doors today (Friday 10 February) to the local community and officially welcomed its first customer Mrs Constance Kendall a resident at the estate.
Badminton Gardens was developed by Hanover, a leading retirement housing provider, in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council.

Mrs Kendall had been living in a three bedroom house in Filton. Following a hip operation, Constance struggled to cope with her daily tasks and became increasingly isolated from the local community because she struggled to go out.

Constance said: “I love my new flat it is like a five star hotel. “There is always someone to talk to and the food in the restaurant is lovely.

“I was so pleased when I heard there was a hairdresser here and I immediately rushed to make my first appointment.”

Badminton Gardens boasts 63 modern apartments and is designed exclusively for local older people. Care is provided by the on site care team.

Hanover Director Claire Anderson: said: “When it comes to where and how they want to live older people have increasingly high expectations.

“Hanover understands this, and offers older people maximum choice, enabling them to live independently.
‘We still have some properties available so anyone who is potentially interested should call South Gloucestershire Council, who are dealing with applications, on 01454 868 005. They can also contact Hanover for more general information about Badminton Gardens and other properties on 0800 2802575.”

Councillor Matthew Riddle said: “I’m delighted that the first residents have started moving into Badminton Gardens, it’s a fantastic facility. It’s part of the council’s plan of investing millions in building a range of 21st century accommodation for older people in South Gloucestershire.

Badminton Gardens Downend

Each of the 63 one and two-bedroom apartments contains modern fitted kitchens and level-access showers.
Residents have access to the 24/7 ‘Hanover on Call’ service, which provides them with a reassuring emergency response service as well as the care team.
The development also has a hairdressing salon, a restaurant, a guest room and other shared social areas.

Extra Care

Extra Care is housing with access to an on-site 24-hour care team. It is NOT residential care. The main benefits of Extra Care are that it:

  •     can allow couples with differing care needs to remain living together
  •     Offers security of tenure – Hanover residents have an assured tenancy, enjoying the same legal housing rights as other housing association tenants. Residents often have the opportunity to own or part-own too.
  •     Can offer a cost-effective and flexible option for older people with low to moderate domiciliary care needs (e.g. help around the home and personal care including help with dressing and washing) – as residents only pay for the care that they need.
