On January 17, 2011 tickets went on sale for St. Charles’ inaugural TEDx event with nothing more than a twitter account to spread the word. Within two weeks, the event almost sold out, although free admission will be offered until the venue reaches full capacity. This overwhelming response to TEDxStCharles highlights the power of TED and the community’s desire for intellectually stimulating and socially important events. “I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of this exciting TED movement. It has been amazing to have so many wonderful people reach out and ask how they can help simply because they believe in the power of making a difference and changing the world,” said Sally Petersen, TEDx liscensee. This first TEDxStCharles event will take place on March 3, 2011 from 9:00-11:30 am at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL, about 40 miles west of Chicago.

ST. CHARLES – One hundred of Chicago’s most passionate TEDx fans will come together on March 3 for a morning of networking and dialogue surrounding leadership, personal branding, and motivation. This exciting and inspirational gathering titled, “The Circle of Authenticity,” will fill the New Orleans Ballroom at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, and will feature an incredible lineup of international speakers.

“It is important that TEDxStCharles provide an opportunity for attendees to broaden their mindset and begin thinking globally, while acting locally. We want our TEDx event to create community and action. Our hope is that people use the electricity and energy created on March 3 to change the world for the better, We want the attendees to walk away with a new fire coupled with an inspired heart,” said Sally Petersen, TEDx licensee.

The independently produced event, operated under a license from TED, is being presented by MAD Consulting (http://www.MADconsulting.org) with the support from Concept One Media (http://www.conceptonevideo.com) and Pheasant Run Resort (http://www.PheasantRun.com).

About TEDxStCharles
In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxWindyCity, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxWindyCity, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK, and this November, the TEDIndia Conference will be held in Mysore, India. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where three exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
