Columbia, SC (PRWEB) February 15, 2011
Southland Log Homes, provider of America’s Favorite Log Home™, and The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, the former home of early twentieth century designer Gustav Stickley, will launch their new alliance at the annual Arts and Crafts Conference at the Grove Park Inn, in Asheville, NC on February 18-20.
At the conference, Southland and The Stickley Museum will unveil a portfolio of Arts and Crafts-inspired log home designs, which will be marketed and manufactured by Southland. Southland and The Stickley Museum will also work together on a number of initiatives to support The Stickley Museum’s mission of demonstrating the continuing relevance of the values exhibited by the work of Gustav Stickley and the Arts and Crafts movement.
The New York Times has called the annual conference “…the most important weekend of the year for Arts & Crafts collectors.” The conference and accompanying antiques show showcase seminar speakers, recognized experts, antiques dealers, educational tours, workshops and discussions, as well as respected artists and skilled artisans from across the country.
Gustav Stickley was a major proponent of the American Arts and Crafts movement, which emphasized the value and beauty of well-crafted design that used natural materials and was in harmony with the environment. In 1911, Stickley designed and built a log home which can be viewed today at Craftsman Farms in Morris County, New Jersey. A scale model of Stickley’s log home will be exhibited by Southland at the conference.
“We are pleased to be able to offer log home designs inspired by the vision of Gustav Stickley as part of our comprehensive library of custom-designed plans,” says Ken Sekley, CEO of Southland Log Homes. “The natural materials and environmentally harmonious design principles advocated by Stickley are especially important in today’s world, and are completely consistent with Southland’s ongoing focus on green home designs and building practices.“
