New York, NY (PRWEB) February 15, 2011
New York based production company Starlight Runner today announced a partnership with Ultimate Gaming Hideout (UGH!), a new gaming venture dedicated to creating fun games for kids of all ages, to prepare the Ku-Mighty trading card game for extension across multiple media platforms including online, mobile, books, graphic novels, TV and film. The deal includes development financing and equity participation for Starlight Runner. Developed by legendary game designers Richard Garfield and Skaff Elias, Ku-Mighty is an immersive trading card game that lends itself perfectly to Starlight Runner's proprietary transmedia development and production techniques, commencing immediately.
Pioneers in the field, Transmedia Producers Jeff Gomez and Mark Pensavalle will develop the game's epic martial arts battles and warrior’s philosophy, and builds an in-depth consumer experience for children and young adults ages 7 - 12. Expanding upon the ancient prophecy of the Nine Legends present in the game, Gomez and Pensavalle will develop the key story elements, backstory and characters that will allow the property to evolve into a robust entertainment franchise. Gomez has experience developing story universes around collectible card game properties and was influential in the success of Magic: The Gathering, on which he served as a writer and producer. Magic: The Gathering is the most successful trading card game of all time having sold billions of copies worldwide. Ku-Mighty will reunite Gomez with Richard Garfield and Skaff Elias, the two key designers of Magic: The Gathering.
"With today's market moving more towards narrative driven content that is extendable to multiple platforms, we knew that when creating a new collectible card game it had to have a dynamic and engaging storyline," said Todd Housel, one of the founders, at Ultimate Gaming Hideout. "We couldnt be more thrilled to be partnering with Jeff, a narrative and transmedia expert, and Richard and Skaff – three players who were instrumental in the global success of Magic: The Gathering – to develop Ku-Mighty as a unique and story rich property for gamers."
“Magic: The Gathering was one of my earliest works that confirmed the revenue generating capabilities of implementing a transmedia strategy and immersive story world around a trading card game,” said Transmedia Producer and CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, Jeff Gomez. “We are excited to be working with Todd and Ultimate Gaming Hideout, as well as with Richard and Skaff to replicate that success on a modern-day property with such rich mythological components as Ku-Mighty.”
Ku-Mighty is UGH’s first game and features a mix of fast-paced play, unique mechanics and a rich narrative that unfolds as the game is played. Ku-Mighty is a unique play on words – the title was adapted from the legendary Japanese fighting tournament “Kumite” and the first word “Ku” means “nine” in Japanese, selected to represent the nine anthropomorphic warriors depicted in the narrative of the game.
In Ku-Mighty players must utilize collectable cards and unique patented figures as elements of gameplay. Different game scenarios are created by mixing strategy and luck for a unique gaming experience each round. With a backstory set in the near future, Ku-Mighty weaves diverse human philosophies into a fantastic pop science fantasy tale, creating a rich tapestry for the unfolding adventures in the Ku-Mighty universe.
