In the first housing market report for 2011, Evers & Co. Real Estate President and Broker Donna Evers notes that the year has gotten off to an uneven start, with more buyers out looking, but fewer desirable properties on the market.

"The flow of new listings was likely delayed by bad weather," Evers said. "However, the numbers are still looking good. The average price in the close-in Metro area was up five percent over last January, which is an increase for the 14th consecutive month."

Donna also notes that houses are selling at a higher price. "It is great news that the dollar volume of sold houses was up for the second month in a row - and a 6.5 percent increase over last January."

As for the spring selling season, Donna remains quite optimistic.

"With the combination of low mortgage interest rates and increased consumer confidence, we should see a steady, strong pace of sales in 2011," she said.

*Statistics are taken from the Metropolitan Information System for three areas: Washington, D.C., Montgomery Country, Maryland; and Fairfax County, Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church in Virginia.
