London, UK (PRWeb UK) February 16, 2011
Skipso, the new cleantech crowdsourcing and social media platform, announced today its partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Clean Energy Prize (submission deadline 25th Feb 2011, 6pm EST). Skipso’s customised matchmaking software connects MIT’s disparate community of Clean Energy Prize teams, alumni, cleantech entrepreneurs, researchers, professionals, investors and policy makers under a single web-portal. In addition, the platform’s open innovation and crowdsourcing forums increase the breadth and reach of the MIT Clean Energy Prize around the world by connecting MIT participants with Skipso’s global cleantech network.
“Before Skipso, we struggled every year to rebuild the MIT Clean Energy Prize community through newsletters, emails and other time consuming methods,” said Georgina Campbell, 2011 Managing Director. “Now, Skipso has given our community a permanent virtual home not only during the competition, but throughout the year- connecting competitors, energy entrepreneurs, and researchers, both locally and internationally.”
The crowdsourcing and social media cleantech platform from Skipso came out of beta testing in the fall of 2010. It was the competition management functionality and secure dedicated virtual environment capabilities that prompted MIT to partner with the UK company. The system guides participants through the award’s application process and updates them with activity surrounding the prize and their application. The platform also provides discussion boards for crowdsourcing solutions, content sections and the ability to collaborate on teams. Additionally, the Skipso software offers social media tools such as profiles, status updates, contacts, messaging, and blogging to foster interaction.
“Similar to the greater cleantech industry, key players and top influencers in the MIT CEP community were fragmented and disconnected before the Skipso platform was implemented,” said Carlo Soresina, co-founder of Skipso. “Our customised platform not only connects the greater MIT Clean Energy community to itself, but also to Skipso’s global cleantech network”
Now in its fourth edition, the MIT Clean Energy Prize (CEP) has helped launch dozens of new cleantech start-ups, including FloDesign, FastCAP Systems and OSCOMP Systems. Collectively, CEP companies have raised over $85 million in funding and created over 400 jobs.
Additional organizations using Skipso’s custom crowdsourcing and social media platforms include Cleantech Business Club (Netherlands), Oske Cleantech Cluster (Finland) and CleantechU (USA).
