iPinion LLC today announced its release of its smartphone survey platform iPinion for Android users. In June, 2010, iPinion launched its smartphone survey app for iPhone, iPodtouch and iPad users.

Speaking about the iPinion Android app release, Pala Kuppusamy, Founder and CEO of iPinion said, “Growth of Android OS in the last year has beaten all market expectations. Smartphones with the Android OS have a clear lead and are soon expected to overtake iOS and Blackberry in market share. iPinion began working on its Android app right after launching the app for Apple iOS devices last year. We wanted to launch the smartphone survey app for the Android OS with more interesting features, taking full advantage of the touch screen interactions, so we added a variety of image interaction question types that would best serve the needs of the research industry for special studies like copy testing for advertising, perception mapping and concept testing.” He added, “We are very excited to see these exciting features in action.”

Key Highlights:

  • Rich image interaction questions allow for advertisement copy testing, perception mapping and concept testing
  • Runs on all Android OS 2.x covering over 87% of Android user base

iPinion has plans to release Apps for Blackberry OS in March 2011 and for Microsoft Mobile OS and Symbian OS by June 2011.

Recently Hugo Barra, Google's Mobile Development Director told BBC that "Smartphones have gone mainstream. There are over 150 smartphones in the market that use the Android OS and Google is expecting a new wave of tablets using the Android OS." Horace Luke, HTC's Chief Innovation Officer, says, "Smartphones users are active 24 by 7 working, shopping, interacting with social media and getting things done."

Mary Meeker, Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers published Top Mobile Internet Trends report on Feb 10, 2011 that shows that Android has the second largest App download rate of 11 million per day, after iPhone with 17 million app downloads per day. App downloads for Symbian are set at 4 million per day and for Blackberry at 2 million. This report also highlights the striking change in web usage behaviour among smartphone users by quoting an example from a social media site that gets 85% of its hits from mobile devices and just 15% from desktop. Clearly, smartphones are becoming pervasive and significant.
