Spring training baseball is a Sarasota tradition that dates back to 1924 when Sarasota built its first spring training stadium, Payne Park, and John Ringling helped to recruit the New York Giants to Sarasota. Other Major League Baseball teams that have taken the field in years past include the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and the Cincinnati Reds.

Today, the Baltimore Orioles now call Sarasota home and in this, their second season, will open their Spring Training campaign against another favorite local team, the Tampa Bay Rays. Take part in the excitement of Spring Training Sarasota-style on Tuesday, March 1 at 1:05, the first of 16 games scheduled for Ed Smith Stadium where tickets start at only $8.

After a long day at the ballpark, retire to a RVA Vacation Rental. RVA offers hundreds of private homes, condominiums and resort-style properties in the popular destinations of Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, Sarasota, Siesta Key, Lido Key and Venice.
