Satrec Initiative Co., Ltd. and SpaceWorks Commercial (a division of SpaceWorks Engineering, Inc.) announce the formation of Satrec Initiative-US (SI-US) to market space satellite hardware products and services in the United States. Based in the Republic of Korea (South Korea), Satrec Initiative Co., Ltd. (Satrec Initiative or SI) is one of the world’s leading small satellite manufacturers. SpaceWorks Commercial is the official representative of SI in the U.S. and will manage the SI-US initiative. SI-US will offer cost-effective and space-qualified solutions for earth observation space hardware to customers in the United States.

Satrec Initiative (SI) provides integrated solutions for Earth Observation (EO) missions and applications. Its activities cover the whole spectrum of EO mission hardware, including satellite platforms, payloads, spacecraft components, and spin-offs. Within the last decade, Satrec Initiative’s products have contributed to over half a dozen flown spacecraft. Specifically, SI provided the overall satellite system for two missions currently in space: RazakSAT and DubaiSat-1.

Satrec Initiative now looks to bring its value-centric space products to the United States though the establishment of Satrec Initiative-US (SI-US). SpaceWorks Commercial will lead the SI-US initiative by providing marketing, sales, and overall management support for SI’s product lines in the United States.

SI-US will offer the world’s most flexible, reliable, and cost effective platforms for small satellite payloads as developed by SI. The SI-100 platform ranges from 80-100 kg, the SI-200 platform ranges from 100-200 kg, and the SI-300 ranges from 200-300 kg.

SI-US will offer a range of SI’s electro-optical payloads that have capabilities ranging from 10 meter to 1 meter Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) for panchromatic images and 15 meter to 4 meter GSD for multi-spectral bands. It will also offer a 100-channel hyper-spectral imaging system.

SI-US will also market SI’s full menu of cost-effective and qualified small satellite components. The line of components currently available includes GPS receivers, magnetometers, magnetic torque drivers/rods, S-band transponders, X-band transmitters, star trackers, and sun sensors. SI-US will also offer SI’s Eco-Friendly Radiation Detector (EFRD), a compact environmental radiation monitoring system for terrestrial applications.

"We are very pleased to introduce SI’s satellite products and services to United States customers," said Dr. Michael (Hyon Sock) Chang, Vice President of Program Development at Satrec Initiative, Co. Ltd., "We are also thrilled to work with SpaceWorks Commercial, which has led several next-generation space technology commercialization initiatives. SI-US is the starting point of a period of great cooperation amongst aerospace firms from the United States and the Republic of Korea."

"The establishment of Satrec Initiative-US (SI-US) allows United States customers to take advantage of the high performance to price ratio of SI’s products and services," said A.C. Charania, President of SpaceWorks Commercial. "Products and services from SI-US offer an advantageous combination of low price, low risk, and high performance to organizations dealing with space hardware acquisition. This is an opportune time to introduce the United States space community to SI, taking place during a period of renewed attention on international space ventures and the ratification of the Republic of Korea-United States Free Trade Agreement. We are excited, proud, and look forward to bringing Satrec Initiative into the United States marketplace.”
