The International School of Hospitality (TISOH) today announced that Dr. Derek Lester has assumed the position of Director of Student Services and Institutional Planning and Accreditation Chair. Derek has worked with non-profits and universities for over 15 years. He earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While Derek was a graduate assistant at UNLV, he planned conferences and taught graduate level courses. His academic studies focused on higher education environments, research methods, and student learning and development. He oversees TISOH’s accreditation, student learning and instruction, and alumni affairs.
The School also announced the schedules for two 5-week FASTtrack certificate programs in Conference Management & Event Planning and Wedding Coordination & Design, all beginning on March 14th. FASTtrack programs meet daily from 9am to noon and feature an instructional team of credentialed industry professional instructors. The TISOH’s campus is conveniently located close to McCarran International Airport at 3614 E. Sunset Road, Suite 110.
Based on a condensed 5-week learning timeframe, FASTtrack programs are especially time-efficient for out of state and international students. The school provides housing recommendations and assistance to make it convenient and simple for students from out of the area. Admission advisors are available to help with the transition. The 2010/11 school year marks the fifth anniversary of the school. The International School of Hospitality (TISOH) was founded by professors from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The mission of the school is to offer practical, short-term hospitality training programs developed for industry by industry. Along with class instruction, most courses include site visits and working internships. The school curriculum includes conference management and event planning, meeting & event catering, event design & production, hospitality leadership and supervision, wedding coordination and design, the art of concierge, art of food and beverage, hotel operations and hospitality human resources.
