Irving, Texas (PRWEB) February 24, 2011
First Choice Power today announced it is opening its Reduce Your Use GrantTM program to Texas schools in addition to nonprofit organizations. The grant program awards as much as $2,000 to schools and nonprofits to fund energy-efficient upgrades. The applications will be available online until April 15, 2011, at FirstChoicePower.com/Reduce.
“Using less energy through energy-efficient upgrades, Texas schools and nonprofits save money that can be used for enhancing programs for the people they serve,” said Brian Hayduk, president, First Choice Power. “By opening the program to schools we are continuing our commitment to fund energy education in Texas classrooms.”
First Choice Power awarded funds to 27 organizations in 2010 through the Reduce Your Use GrantTM program. Recipients included Happy Hill Farm Children’s Home of Granbury, which used the grant to replace all their light bulbs with energy-efficient ones, and the West Texas Food Bank of Odessa, which used its grant to purchase an ENERGY STAR-rated refrigerator and freezer for its Kids Café program.
To be eligible, organizations must have current or active IRS 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) status, be registered with and be in good standing with the appropriate state registration agency, be in a First Choice Power service territory or community where the company has business interest. Schools must also be in a First Choice Power community.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on April 15. Only one application per organization or school will be accepted. Priority will be given to First Choice Power customers, agencies with a low-income focus and agencies where First Choice Power employees and retirees volunteer.
