Arcadia Solutions, a national healthcare IT consulting firm, announced this month the successful analysis and design of a data-driven Meaningful Use solution for its partner, Signature Healthcare.

Innovative, Informative, and Effective are key terms that all healthcare executives hope to use to describe their Health IT initiatives. Signature, a large community hospital system outside of Boston, began to adopt these terms when it partnered with Arcadia to turn its electronic medical record (EMR) system into a powerful tool to extract and measure its clinical data from across its various provider settings.

Using a new structured set of data-driven guidelines, Signature was able to enhance its EMR and dramatically improved physician participation in its commitment to Health IT.

“Arcadia’s analysis and healthcare expertise has allowed Signature to enhance its EMR utilization and create reports off accurate data for organizational planning and investments,” said PJ Pettinato, MD, CMIO at Signature Healthcare.

Through the solution, Signature Healthcare put itself on track to receive the Meaningful Use incentive dollars made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and address its quality care vision of reducing costs and improving the long-term care of its patients. Hospitals that do not meet the federal guidelines for Meaningful Use by 2015 begin to face financial penalties in the form of reduced Medicare reimbursement payments.

To achieve this solution, Signature Healthcare engaged Arcadia Solutions and its EMR Diagnostics™ framework to quickly analyze their current state of EMR accuracy, address the gaps, and then work with the Signature Healthcare team to drive to the successful overhaul.

“In the end, data doesn’t lie, so we were able to take a much more data-driven approach to solving their EMR problems,” said Jacob Goldstein, a senior Arcadia consultant on the project.

Now, Signature Healthcare is able to create valuable reports from its clinical patient information that will enhance the quality of care in various ways:

  •     The data will help paint a bigger picture of the health trends and issues affecting Signature’s patient panels so that education and prevention can play a bigger role in the care process.
  •     It will allow providers to determine which patients are overdue for preventative screens so that they can be proactively notified.
  •     It will it well help providers better conduct chronic care management through the use of electronic alerts and notifications.
