With the help of Radio 2's Chris Evans, England Rugby Team Manager Martin Johnson has raised over £16,000 for charity this month. The specially-organised fundraising dinner was hosted just four days before the RBS Six Nations clash against France, at the official training base for England Rugby - Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey, where the squad resides and trains before all international fixtures. Johnson was joined by England Rugby Squad Members Nick Easter, Danny Care and Lewis Moody.

The charity auction was hosted by breakfast show DJ Chris Evans, and the prizes included a guitar signed by Paul McCartney, a signed 1966 World Cup Print signed by team members like Alan Ball, a pair of signed football boots from David Beckham and a 2003 RFU World Cup Winners signed cap and rugby ball.

However, the biggest prize of the night was supplied by Chris Evans and won with a bid of £5,000. The original prize of one of his signed books ended up including a visit to Radio 2, the opportunity to read the weather on his breakfast show, a round of golf after the show and a drive in one of the cars from his famous collection.

The evening raised over £16,000 for Pennyhill Park Hotel's chosen charities, 'Children with Special Needs Foundation' and 'Surrey Going for Gold'. General Manager Julian Tomlin said "We're delighted to have raised such a staggering sum for these local charities. The evening was a great success and only serves to strengthen our relationship with the Rugby Football Union and our chosen charities - it was so pleasing to see over 120 guests enjoying their time here at Pennyhill Park."
