In response to the recent increase in demand, Online Stores announces the availability of the previously retired Libyan flag, the Flag of the Kingdom of Libya, adopted in 1951 and replaced in 1969. This flag has been readopted as a symbol of opposition, representing the masses currently seeking to overthrow the autocratic rule of Muammar al-Gaddafi, whose reign began during a 1969 coup.
The introduction of the flag of the Kingdom of Libya came alongside the nation’s independence from Italy in 1951. The flag consists of three horizontal bands; red at the top, black in the center, and green across the bottom. The black band in the center is the largest of the three. The red portion of the flag represents the region of Fezzan, along with the blood of the people. The green portion represents the Tripolitania, and is also the color of Islam. Within the center black band is a white crescent and star, symbols common in many Arabic Muslim nations. This was the flag until the rule of Muammar al-Gaddafi, and has therefore become the primary symbol of resistance to his government.
Those who would like to show their support will find this flag available in three sizes; 3x5’, 4x6’ and 12x18”. The design of the flag will also be available as artwork to be printed on custom products and t-shirts, allowing for additional means of showing support for the courageous protesters in Libya.
