West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 28, 2011
Streamline Publishing announces the return of its title Plein Air Magazine, an art magazine about the art of painting outdoors. The magazine targets art collectors and artists.
The original PleinAir was launched in 2004, and in 2006 the company changed the name to Fine Art Connoisseur, with broader and differently focused content. But the past few years have seen a tremendous increase in interest in painting outdoors, directly from nature, and in studio paintings based on work done en plein air -- French for "in the open air." As a result, the company started a grass-roots effort over two years ago to examine whether PleinAir should return. Once the surveys showed high demand, the company decided to move forward, and announced on December 24, 2010, that the new magazine would be released in February 2011.
The new, quarterly PleinAir magazine is available in print and digital formats, and also has an active website at http://www.outdoorpainter.com and a weekly e-newsletter.
PleinAir Publisher and Streamline Publishing CEO B. Eric Rhoads said, "In 2006 we changed the title so we could go after a more lucrative market. Since that time the demand has been high and we have received thousands of requests to bring back PleinAir. Additionally, the movement has exploded and the opportunity today is considerably larger. It's like Classic Coke -- people want the original back! And we're providing it."
The company hired M. Stephen Doherty as editor-in-chief of all PleinAir print and online publications. Doherty was the respected editor-in-chief of American Artist magazine for 31 years. He has written a dozen books and hundreds of magazine articles, regularly participates in plein air events, and serves as an adviser to art organizations and schools.
Each issue of the new PleinAir magazine features reproductions of contemporary and historic artwork, profiles of top artists, step-by-step master demonstrations, and directories of organizations and events. The expanded digital edition includes all the content from the print magazine, plus additional images from featured artists; video with demonstrations and artist interviews; tours of public and private art collections; audio-accompanied slide shows of artist and collector events; and more. The e-magazine will be available online, by e-mail, and in an iPad edition.
The PleinAir website at http://www.pleinairmagazine.com or http://www.outdoorpainter.com is updated daily and features content from the magazine plus news, discussion forums, galleries of members' art, contests, event and exhibition information, and much more.
Additionally, Streamline Publishing will host a plein air convention in 2012, just outside Las Vegas at Red Rocks Casino & Resort. This event will be not just a workshop, but a gathering of artists and collectors from around the world to paint, learn, and discuss the direction of the art form. More details will be announced in the coming months.
