The OpenFabrics Alliance (OFA), an open source community delivering powerful I/O solutions, today announced a new contest to look at deployments of its OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED™) open-source software in high-performance networking applications. All end users of OFED are encouraged to enter the “Most Interesting OFED Deployment” contest to be eligible to win cash prizes in the amount of $1,500 (first place), $1,000 (second place), and $500 (third place). The contest runs through April 1, 2011 and winners will be announced on April 4 at the 2011 OpenFabrics Alliance International Workshop in Monterey, CA.
Entry form requests information on how OFED is being used, increasing productivity and providing a return on investment in high performance computing and enterprise data center deployments. Details and contest entry form are available at http://www.openfabrics.org/OFED_contests.
Entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by the OpenFabrics Alliance Marketing Working Group based on the following criteria:
- Completeness of entry form
- Evaluation of contestant’s knowledge of and insight into the benefits of OFED
- Creativity of deployment and applicability of usage case scenario to other current and potential OFED users.
OFED is a downloadable, networking open-source software package that implements Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) and kernel bypass mechanisms to deliver high-efficiency computing, wire-speed messaging, ultra-low microsecond latencies and fast I/O for servers, block storage and file systems. OFED downloads are available at openfabrics.org for Linux and Windows through GPL or BSD licensing.
