Atlanta, Georgia (Vocus/PRWEB) February 03, 2011
Delta Airlines is working together with the US Customs and Border Protection to decrease waiting lines for immigration as part of Delta’s focus to become the number one airline in customer service again. This was one of the important messages Mr. Greg Kennedy, Vice President of Airport Customer Service - Worldport for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta shared with the members of the Netherlands American Chamber of Commerce in the Southeastern United States (NACCSE) during their breakfast meeting. Mr. Kennedy is responsible for the largest single airline hub operation in the world. He and his capable team oversee Delta's Atlanta operation with approximately 1,000 daily flights and over 5,000 employees.
A great number of members from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and Dutch business leaders showed their interest and learned more about doing business with or at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport during the breakfast meeting. The Dutch Chamber of Commerce Atlanta is an initiative to encourage, support and promote trade and investment relationships between The Netherlands and the United States. The Chamber provides a platform for new and established Dutch businesses, and other members of the Dutch community, to come together to advance their interests, and for Dutch and American businesses to work together for their mutual benefit in Southeastern United States.
Delta’s focus on customer service
Mr. Kennedy told the group that Atlanta is the single largest hub operation in the world. The Atlanta hub is a successful part of Delta, partly because Atlanta is a two hour flight from 80% of the US population. Mr. Kennedy explained, “We continuously are working to improve our services for our customers. Examples of our commitment to improvements are our $150 million investment to upgrade our baggage handling systems and investments in portable technology so customers can be served anywhere on the airport. We are opening another two sky clubs which will bring the total to 10 sky clubs. We are also working together with the US Customs and Border Protection to decrease waiting lines for immigration. We know that this is one of the biggest irritations for international travelers. All in all we are working towards our goal to become the number one airline in customer service again.”
Vanderlande Industries baggage handling systems
Greg Kennedy also mentioned Vanderlande Industries, one of the corporate members of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. Vanderlande Industries provided a major improvement of the baggage handling system for the Atlanta Airport. Mr. Kennedy explained that the travel experience is greatly improved by faster handling of bags. Vanderlande Industries is a Dutch owned company with a customer center in Atlanta, and is one of the world’s leading turnkey integrators of baggage handling systems.
Greg Kennedy discussed not only his company's airport operations, but also the integration process for Northwest and Delta personnel and the new international terminal. He also mentioned the importance to international travelers from and to Atlanta. “We are really looking forward to finalizing the new terminal, the Maynard H Jackson International Terminal. This terminal has 12 gates and will be dedicated to international flights. The goal is to have the new terminal operating in April 2012.”
