Lewisville, NC (PRWEB) March 9, 2011
Kaplan Early Learning Company recently donated over 4500 learning products to the Clemmons Rotary Foundation to continue its work to provide education and general medical support and assistance to the children of Nicaragua.
The donation will be used to support Saving Little Hearts of Nicaragua, a 501(c) (3) registered non-profit organization founded by Rotarians in Clemmons, NC with the specific mission to provide education and general medical assistance to children in the vicinity of Leon, Nicaragua who suffer from strep throat infections that lead to rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease at an early age. Although almost eliminated in the United States, rheumatic heart disease is a serious problem with children in Leon, Nicaragua, one of four "hot spots" for this problem in the world.
The large assortment of educational materials for developing cognitive and fine motor skills donated by Kaplan Early Learning Company was taken to Raleigh by Clemmons Rotarians to be consolidated with medical supplies in a container for shipment to Leon, Nicaragua.
The materials will be distributed to hospital, clinics, schools and orphanages in Managua and Leon by the Leon Nicaragua Rotary Club. "I believe one of the main reasons that the Saving Little Hearts of Nicaragua program is successful is due to the partnership between the North Carolina Rotary Club and the Leon Nicaragua Rotary Club. Having them involved increases our effectiveness and increases the impact by trusting and supporting local citizens," said Tara O'Brien.
