Blogger Extraordinaire Katie Kavulla of Seattle Randomly Chosen to Win Shoes for a Year in's First Shoestakes Social Media Contest

When a friend sent me the link to the contest, I had just finished making my 2011 list of everything I'd like to accomplish in the year, so I had the best time matching up shoes from to my resolutions. put a call out to the Blogosphere, and the Blogosphere answered. Timed to kick off the year of new resolutions with a bang, staged its first Shoestakes, a four-week competition offering bloggers, tweeters and re-tweeters the opportunity to win one of four weekly prizes (a $50 gift certificate to, and bloggers alone a chance at the grand prize of shoes for a year (eleven $200 gift certificates, one per month, February through December, 2011) for a total of $2,200.

The competition was a resounding success. Entrants were asked to post one or more blogs about 2011 resolutions, exploring how shoes, clothing or accessories from could help them achieve their goals for the new year, and include links to the Shoestakes contest blog and the company's website in each post. By retweeting, even bloggers' fans were eligible to be awarded one of the four weekly prizes. Lucky winners of the $50 gift certificates included Katy (@kitkat234), Dirtbiker (@dirtbiker2010), Katie (@being_katie) and Shanna (@craftsexaminer).

After 1,176 tweets and 21 eligible blogs, a grand prize winner of a year's worth of shoes was randomly selected from all the entries earned, and subsequently announced on the Shoestakes 2011 winner blog post. Also fortunate enough to be one of the weekly $50 winners, Katie Kavulla, a shoe lover, freelance writer and Seattle mother of three children, ages 11 months, 3 and 6, blogged and tweeted her way to victory from her blog, being5, and Twitter, @being_katie.

"I entered the Shoestakes without even considering that I'd be the one to win the grand prize. When a friend sent me the link to the contest, I had just finished making my 2011 list of everything I'd like to accomplish in the year, so I had the best time matching up shoes from to my resolutions," writes Shoestakes winner Katie Kavulla.

One of the shoe choices Katie blogged about is a best-selling KEEN style, the Targhee II hiking shoe, a perfect style to accompany cooler, wetter months. Camping, climbing, or just taking a long walk on a drizzly day, the Targhee II—as well as its predecessor, the Targhee—offers GORE-TEX® protection, foot-cradling support and chafe-free comfort to every step, and is available for men, women and children alike. As her kids grow, Katie can outfit the whole family in KEEN Targhee shoes and boots.

Walking with her team in the annual March of Dimes 'March for Babies' fundraiser calls for a vibrant, spirited shoe, so Katie selected the Saucony Jazz Nyon/Suede sneaker. Retro style and modern, cushioned comfort pair perfectly with raising money for a cause that both helps to prevent premature births and supports premature babies and their families. In Seattle, the April 30, 2011 event will cover approximately three miles, and a pair of jazzy Sauconys would make a terrific walking companion.

Even though being a mother of three keeps her moving at top speed, Katie also demonstrates an appreciation for a gorgeous, high-heeled shoe. In anticipation of her special birthday coming up, she found a style that wouldn't fare very well in the mountains, on a walk or at the beach, but would look absolutely fabulous at a party where she was the center of attention. The feminine, take-no-prisoners Matisse Oliver wedge is a work of footwear art guaranteed to keep all eyes turned on her.

"I'm looking forward to continuing blogging about the Shoestakes by keeping my readers informed about what I used my $200 to buy each month; I know that I've already had some readers and friends order shoes that I included in my entry posts and can't wait to share more shoe picks throughout the year. Thanks,—this Seattle girl loves this Seattle company!" concludes Katie.
