Silver Surfers Less Active Online on Valentine’s Day

On the online dating industry’s biggest day of the year, it was found that members in the 50+ age group were less active than their younger counterparts according to

Whilst there was a 6.56% spike in visitors within this demographic, compared to the daily average of the previous seven days, this is still a much lower increase than other age groups, and out of those who did sign in to their cupid account there was a 2.6% drop in activity.

From visitor data that analysed for the whole of Valentine’s Day, it was found that the greatest uplift in visitors was from the 31-40 age group, with an astonishing 11.52% increase in the number of members signing in to find someone. However, this still wasn’t the most active age group. The 31-40 age group were mostly content with browsing and checking their inbox it seems.

The most active amongst members on Valentines’ Day were the much younger age groups, with an uplift of 11.49% in the number of 18-25 year olds doing more than just checking their messages. It seems this age group were the ones really looking for someone on Valentine’s Day, by checking out the profiles of new or online members.

The fact that the younger age group were so active online on Valentine’s Day maybe isn’t such a surprise. It’s possible that to this age group it’s more important to be with someone on the most romantic day of the year as they will see their peer group enjoying time with their partners.”
