Pet Sitters International’s designation is considered industry’s highest honor

Scott Black, owner of Personal Touch Pet Sitting, Inc. in Kingwood, Texas, was crowned Pet Sitters International’s (PSI) 2010 Pet Sitter of the Year in New Orleans, Louisiana, February 10, 2011, at PSI's annual Quest for Excellence Convention. This annual competition embodies the heart, soul and professionalism of the pet-sitting industry. The winner represents the quality care offered by professional pet sitters.

Created by PSI in 1995, this designation is considered the pet-sitting industry’s highest honor. This year’s contest brought in 855 nominations for nearly 70 PSI members in 25 states and Canada. Serving on this year’s judging panel were David Pearsall of Business Insurers of the Carolinas, 2009 Pet Sitter of the Year Cara Armour and Jim Davis, creator of “Garfield.”

Black started his business in 2002 with a promise to his clients, "We are dedicated to your pet's well-being and your peace of mind." The nominations he received from his clients are a testament to his success in fulfilling that promise. One client said, "Scott is awesome. He is the epitome of what every pet sitter should strive to be. All of our pets adore Scott - and so do we."

Black was a Top Five Finalist for Pet Sitter of the Year in 2007 and 2009. The third time was the charm for “Uncle Scott,” as he was the judges’ top choice for this year’s award. One member of the judging panel said, “Scott truly is the reigning star. His community involvement is outstanding, his pride in PSI is notable and his general persona would make him a wonderful Pet Sitter of the Year. Scott will represent PSI and its more than 7,500 members proudly and professionally. He exudes stellar experience, a wonderful client satisfaction and a true personal touch to this industry that should be shared with pet sitters and pet owners everywhere.”

The 2010 Pet Sitter of the Year award is sponsored by Business Insurers of the Carolinas, a company that has worked with and supported the pet-sitting industry for nearly two decades.

Black will serve as the public face of PSI’s nearly 7,500 members and represent the pet-sitting industry until the 2011 winner is crowned. The other Top five Finalists in the 2010 Pet Sitter of the year competition were:
Sharon Barker, PetAgree Pet Sitters, Salinas, California,
Carolyn Bauer, My Elite Pet Care, Littleton, Colorado,
Nancy Fiorita, Familiar Surroundings Cat Sitting Service, Bellbrook, Ohio, and
Colleen McDonough, Barks and Blooms, Baldwin, Maryland.
