Davie, FL (PRWEB) March 2, 2011
Calling all cyclists, from novice to expert. From March 6 to March 12, 2011, Do It For Dara will present the 7-Day Spin Challenge and Spin to Give, both events co-sponsored by Studio Be and Massage Envy of Davie, Florida. The fit-philanthrophy events will benefit and support 2 year-old Dara Edwards as she battles a rare and highly malignant brain tumor called Ependymoblastoma.
The 7-Day Spin Challenge is South Florida’s longest (and quite probably only) mobile relay for stationary cyclists. Do It For Dara, Studio Be, and Massage Envy call on all local indoor and outdoor cycling enthusiasts to sign up for one “relay” shift during the week of the event. Each relay “shift” will last two hours on a spin bike, but not just any spin bike: this bike will be positioned inside a clear-sided panel truck that will be parked in seven (or more) high-visibility locations around South Florida (at least one per day), 24-hours a day for the week. Don’t worry about comfort: the truck is well-appointed with air conditioning, great music for intense spin sessions, and an e-Spinner for riders to track their rides.
Like several other extreme endurance events targeted at raising funds and public awareness of a particular health topic of interest, Do It For Dara asks riders who reserve a two-hour spin session during the 7-Day Spin Challenge to set a minimum fundraising goal of $200.
If you’d like Do It For Dara, but perhaps with a smaller commitment, the Spin to Give series of sessions on Saturday, March 12th may be more your style. One-hour Spin to Give rides will begin at 9:00am, 10:05am, and 11:10am with B, Shannon, or Mark in Studio Be’s sensory-attentive spin studio. Reserve a bike today for $50. All participants will receive a complimentary gym bag, t-shirt, water bottle, other assorted goodies, and a killer workout!
The events’ 2 year-old beneficiary, however, needs much more. On October 25, 2010, Dara Edwards suddenly began having recurrent seizures. Within a month, a craniotomy and biopsy of a mass excised from Dara’s brain revealed Dara’s diagnosis: Ependymoblastoma, a rare and highly malignant brain tumor that occurs in infants and young children in the first two years of life. She has recently begun an 18-month regimen. When she reaches the scheduled completion of her treatment regimen, she will have spent almost exactly half of her young life in and out of hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices undergoing treatment.
