On October 25th, 2007 First Platoon, Battle Company, of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team was ambushed on a rugged mountain ridge in the Korengal Valley in Northeastern Afghanistan. Despite the company’s assets of 2 predator drones and 2 H64 helicopters, the platoon was unaware of the position of the enemy and walked right into an ambush; resulting in two casualties and almost every member of the platoon receiving wounds. This scenario may ring a bell if you have seen the recent academy award nominee, Restrepo. Visit http://restrepothemovie.com for more.

Unfortunately, this scenario is all too common as each year since 2001 U.S. casualties in Afghanistan have steadily increased http://www.icasualties.org/oef/. Restrepo represents a fundamental gap in perimeter security and force protection in remote battlefield situations. The element of surprise continues to be the insurgent’s number one advantage and is resulting in the loss of hundreds of American lives each year.

SpotterRF was founded with the mission of helping to reduce the number of ambush casualties of our elite forces. The company does this by leading the industry in the newest surveillance radar technology called Micro Surveillance Radar (MSR). The development of the technology came from the need to make radar more portable and easier to use, allowing our elite forces, like those of the 173rd Airborne, to have perimeter security and force protection in even the most remote situations. The latest model of the SpotterRF, the M600 weighs less than 5 pounds, making it truly man packable. The radar also has a range of over 1km, making it ideal for remote operations.

“We designed the radar with force protection of our elite war fighters in mind,” said Logan Harris, CEO of SpotterRF. “Our goal is to make radar available in even the most remote locations by making the radar small enough to stick in a rucksack, easy enough to operate that it does not require special training, and reliable enough to work in even the harshest conditions.”

SpotterRF Inc. is the industry leader in a new class of radar called Micro Surveillance Radar (MSR). SpotterRF Inc. is a privately held company located in Orem, UT. To find out more about SpotterRF please visit http://www.spotterrf.com or contact us at pr(at)spotterrf(dot)com
