WildHawk Golf Club announced today the release of the course’s branded iPhone app, a social yardage book aptly named, WildHawk Golf Club. The application is powered by a highly customized version of Weekend Warrior’s iPhone application, iYardage. The new application enables WildHawk to further engage golfers by leveraging the power of social media and the iPhone. The expected result -- more rounds of golf played at WildHawk.
The WildHawk Golf Club iPhone application is available to all WildHawk golfers directly from Apple’s App Store. It allows golfers to easily keep score via a simple, highly intuitive interface on the iPhone. At each hole, the application provides the golfer with graphic course details allowing them to select the proper club based on yardage. In addition, golfers have access to recommendations about the hole directly from course professionals and other golfers through GolfTips functionality. While on the course, the golfer has the ability to share their golf experiences with friends and other golfers by uploading quotes and app-provided graphics about the round directly to their Facebook newsfeed. Lastly, golfers can play in exclusive, course-sponsored competitions for prizes and course merchandise.
While the application was built and designed for golfers, it also provides an entrée for WildHawk into social media. By leveraging social media, the course will increase golfer engagement and incent golfers to serve as WildHawk “brand ambassadors” to prospective golfers. As the golfer progresses through the round, WildHawk can offer advertisements for their restaurant, provide discounted specials on merchandise in the pro shop, or give discounts on future rounds. This interaction enables the course to engage directly with golfers while they are on the course.
Paul Henderson, General Manager for the WildHawk Golf Club says, “By leveraging the power of the iPhone and Facebook, the new WildHawk yardage book application will provide stronger engagement for golfers of all skill levels. By enabling golfers to share rounds with friends, track and measure their progress, and compete in course-sponsored events, we’ll be in a great position to increase the number of rounds played.”
“We're excited to launch our first branded app with WildHawk", says Shaw Taylor, head of marketing and partnerships for Weekend Warriors, creators of iYardage. "By customizing our consumer iPhone application for the WildHawk Golf Course, we’ve helped provide WildHawk golfers with an even more engaging golfing experience. This app creates a new channel which sets the stage for increased course awareness amongst new golfers and more rounds played by existing golfers.”
