The Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) will be adding a “Parallel Track” to its traditional educational programming specifically focused on the newer, less experienced inland marine underwriting and claims personnel.

Parallel Track participants will have the opportunity to interact with more seasoned industry professionals

The IMUA’s 2011 Annual Meeting, slated for Chicago’s Drake Hotel May 14-18, 2011, will have some new additions to its educational agenda. IMUA will be adding a “Parallel Track” to its traditional educational programming specifically focused on the newer, less experienced inland marine underwriting and claims personnel. In addition, continuing education credits will be offered to assist producers and other interested parties in meeting their state insurance licensing requirements.

The new “Parallel Track” will consist of a series of seminars and workshops patterned after the IMUA’s Intro to Inland Marine Course, and will run parallel to the more in-depth educational sessions the annual meeting has offered. This new approach is geared to those new to, or less experienced in, commercial inland marine insurance. The annual meeting agenda for these attendees will also include attendance at some of the general sessions such as the kick-off session – a 35,000 foot level overview of the current state of the Inland Marine and PC Industry scheduled to be delivered by Conning & Co. “Parallel Track” participants will also have the opportunity to interact with more seasoned industry professionals and participate in Annual Meeting receptions, recreational activities and trade show.

IMUA Chairman Sophia Phillips said, “We are very excited about launching this new format for our Annual Meeting. It is the direct result of numerous requests from our membership for more opportunities for their less experienced personnel, and a goal of an ad hoc IMUA committee to get agents and brokers more familiar with the many facets of inland marine insurance. We encourage our members and friends in the producer community to take advantage of this new and exciting program. It is also an excellent opportunity for these attendees to network with others in the industry.”

Among the topics to be covered by the “Parallel Track” are an Introduction to The Nation-Wide Marine Definition, how inland marine is structured and operates at the company level, and line of business specifics dealing with transportation, builders risk and construction insurance. Please check the IMUA website http://www.imua.org for more details as the final schedule of educational seminars and workshops are nearing completion.
