Manuel Rodriguez III, head of Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez and Sons of Madrid, Spain, visited The Woodwind & Brasswind Flagship Superstore in South Bend, Indiana, on January 25 and 26, where he offered an in-depth presentation on classical guitar production.
While in South Bend, Rodriguez engaged customers at the musical instrument retail super store in conversations about the intricacies of classical guitar construction. Rodriguez also spent time with members of the expert Woodwind & Brasswind staff to familiarize them with the Rodriguez guitar line. Attendees said that the information presented by Rodriguez would help them assist musicians to select classical or nylon-string guitars.
Rodriguez, author of the Hal Leonard book "The Art and Craft of Making Classical Guitars" took time during his visit for an interview on the topics of classical guitar luthiery, music for classical guitar, and the future of classical guitar construction and performance. During the interview, Rodriguez pointed out that handcrafted guitar making is becoming increasingly rare in the modern world.
Rodriguez travels widely supporting the value of music and music education. Every year he donates a classical guitar to the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in order to remind world leaders of the importance of music. The third generation of Rodriguez guitar makers, he is the great-grandson of flamenco guitarist Manuel Rodriguez Marequi, grandson of classical luthier Manuel Rodriguez Perez, and son of custom luthier Manuel Rodriguez, Jr.
Rodriguez guitars earned a reputation for being constructed only from the finest woods, with each guitar hand-formed to precise tolerances. As a result, Rodriguez guitars are famous for their comfort and playability.
