Abvio’s Runmeter, the highest-rated GPS fitness app on iTunes, was honored last night at MediaPost’s Appy Awards Gala as the Best Healthcare & Fitness App. The gala was held at the conclusion of day one of MediaPost’s annual OMMA Global Conference & Expo.
“While we are extremely honored to be recognized by the Appy Award judges we’d like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, who are critical to Runmeter’s success,” said Steve Kusmer, CEO of Abvio Inc. “They provide us with continual feedback on Runmeter’s performance and the new features they’d like us to add and will continue to play an important role as Runmeter evolves.”
Runmeter uses GPS to track and give feedback on exercise performance. It was the first iPhone app to incorporate text-to-speech technology so users can hear replies to their workout-related status updates from Twitter and Facebook. Runmeter 5.0, announced at Macworld 2011, laps the competition with new features designed to improve running and workout performance. New features in Runmeter 5.0 include integration with dailymile.com a leading social network for fitness. Users can automatically sync their workouts to dailymile.com, which has more than 200,000 members around the world. Now users can hear motivational comments from other “dailymilers.” This video shows dailymile integration in Runmeter 5.0.
New advanced data import capabilities and a Virtual Competition feature will allow users to import a route as a “virtual competitor.” Users can view the competitor’s location on maps and graphs, and hear updates of the competitor’s relative progress. Data from previously recorded workouts, social fitness sites, and even devices (such as those from Garmin) can be imported and included in the workout history. Routes can also be pre-mapped on sites including dailymile.com, and downloaded into the app using the industry standard GPX format. Click here to see data import and Virtual Competition in action.
iPhone users can now choose from 16 different voices and dialects to speak replies to their workout status updates from Twitter, Facebook and dailymile (available through an optional In App purchase). Options include female or male voices in English (American and British), German and French (including Canadian French). The apps includes twenty-five configurable voice announcements that speak distance, time, speed, elevation, climb, and more. This short video gives an overview of the new voice options available in Runmeter 5.0.
