Appswell, maker of the leading mobile crowdsourcing platform, has released its 2011 Branded App Scorecard, a report that rates the success of iPhone apps for thirty top brands. Appswell has generated this scorecard using its just announced App Grader tool, which the company will offer for free to any brand with an existing app. This tool is an extension of Appswell’s continuing efforts to help brands develop successful mobile strategies aligned with customer expectations through implementation of Appswell’s drop-in crowdsourcing platform.

“The report shows us that most branded apps have a tremendous opportunity to improve. Most apps fail for the same two reasons-- they fail to engage the existing fans of the brand, and they don’t know the complicated needs of their existing user base,”

The report and App Grader Tool use Appswell’s proprietary algorithm to give a score of actual points out of a potential 100 for branded apps on a number of variables including user satisfaction, ability to engage existing brand fans and foster advocacy, and how well the app meets the complex and often varying expectations of its user base.

“The report shows us that most branded apps have a tremendous opportunity to improve. Most apps fail for the same two reasons-- they fail to engage the existing fans of the brand, and they don’t know the complicated needs of their existing user base,” said Daniel Sullivan, CEO and Founder of Appswell. “Both are issues that Appswell’s integrated or native crowdsourcing platform can help brands fix.”

Appswell’s business unit has provided crowdsourcing apps for companies such as Kraft Foods with its “Kraft App Challenge” campaign and General Electric for its Ecomagination iPhone app. The company’s business-to-business services leverage the Appswell platform to create embedded apps for instant feedback on current apps, or native apps for brands wishing to build their mobile identity and tap into the power of the crowd and online communities for feedback, comments and thoughts.
