On March 10th 2011, thousands of dental professionals from around the world will converge on Vancouver, British Columbia for the 3-day Pacific Dental Conference. The Pacific Dental Conference is one of the most prominent dental conferences in the world and attracts over 12,000 attendees annually. Amoung the many acclaimed guests attending this year’s event is Professor Michael Wilson, a world renowned expert in the growing field of photodisinfection. Professor Michael Wilson will be speaking at the Pacific Dental Conference on March 11th from 8:30am-11am in room 302, inside the Vancouver Convention Center.

Professor Michael Wilson of University College London is the pioneer of photodisinfection, a technology proven over decades of research to target and destroy the microbes that are responsible for biofilm-associated infections. “One of the many problems confronting the world at present is the inexorable increase in the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant microbes,” states Professor Wilson. “Many medical professionals are extremely concerned that soon we will be confronted by infections against which all of our current antibiotics are ineffective.” Due to this fact this type of therapy has found its way into many different aspects of medicine, including MRSA prevention and cancer treatment with very successful and promising results. Photodisinfection therapy has been suggested for numerous other indications, from the treatment of ear infections to the prevention of HIV transmission through the birth canal.
