West Los Angeles was the second stop on Terry Kelhawk’s cross-country tour speaking on the topic of “REVEALED: How the Koran has Changed, and Why it Matters to America”.
The tour, which began in Phoenix, spins off Kelhawk’s recently released book, The Topkapi Secret, and is a venue for Kelhawk to explain the importance of the novel’s theme. Over the past dozen years of research, Kelhawk has become convinced that, “The cornerstone in promoting radical Islam is the widespread Muslim belief that the Koran has never changed, and the extreme devotion this false belief engenders.”
As the message concluded, the audience, which was already knowledgeable in Islam, became convinced of its importance. “Are you the only person going around talking about this?” asked one woman, surprised that the issue was not getting more attention. “Everybody in America will be reading this book,” commented a man with confidence.
The audience was also concerned for Kelhawk’s safety. Terry acknowledges that public appearances can be risky when you challenge the Koran, but says, “I’m just promoting peace with truth.”
Themes covered in the lecture tour are: the historical background of the Koran, Muslim claims about the Koran, actual changes in the text, why the changes matter, and how Americans can use this knowledge to combat terrorism.
Why does Kelhawk think Americans should learn about the Koran’s changes? “The best way to promote peace with the Muslim World is to make the true origin and preservation of the Koran general knowledge. Since it is a major sin in Islam to say anything that reflects unfavorably on Islam and Muslims, or cast even a shade of shame their way, it is left to other cultures to bring the history of the Koran to light.”
Kelhawk points how in centuries past the truth purged India of the common practices of suttee (widow burning) and starving child widows. Likewise, the hope is that when Muslims recognize the actual development of their holy book, it will promote a moderate outlook.
