Singers Forum Offers Singing Classes Led by Teaching Artists from Broadway and the NY Cabaret Scene Beginning March 15

From “Cabaret & Musical Performance” to “Singing for People who Think They Can’t” to “The Arrangement Experience,” Singers Forum — a non-profit musical oasis in New York City—offers courses for singers of all levels for the spring semester beginning March 15. Broadway's Eric Michael Gillett & Teri Ralston, cabaret's Karen Oberlin & William Zeffiro and MAC Award-winner Lennie Watts are some of the teaching artists leading classes.

Singers Forum’s mission is to engage a diverse student body of singers in a situation dedicated to the development and appreciation of the vocal arts.

Singers Forum, a non-profit musical oasis committed to providing the highest quality vocal training for New York City residents, will be offering courses for professional artists and the “recreational singer” beginning March 15.

Classes offered this semester include:

Singing for People Who Think They Can’t
Eight weekly classes starting Tuesday, March 15
Teaching Artist: Wendy Russell • $240
Singer, songwriter and arranger Wendy Russell will help students learn to conquer their fear of singing in a fun, supportive and caring environment.

Cabaret and Musical Performance
Nine weekly classes, including a performance, starting Wednesday, March 16
Teaching Artist:Teri Ralston • $450
Broadway veteran Teri Ralston (Company, A Little Night Music) will help students find personal connections to a song, and develops their ability to share the connection with an audience. Ms. Ralston will offer a free sample class on Thursday, March 17.

Telling the Story Intensive Workshop
Eight weekly classes followed by a performance, starting April 4
Teaching Artists: Karen Oberlin & William Zeffiro • $550
“Telling the Story,” an 8-week intensive workshop provides students a rare opportunity for students to delve deeply into both the technical and interpretive aspects of singing. Participants, with the help of Karen Oberlin and William Zeffiro, will choose selections from the Great American Songbook in order to find their unique and personal take on this timeless material and then perform these songs in front of an invited audience in the final class.

The Arrangement Experience
Eight weekly classes and a performance starting April 6 & April 9
Teaching Artist: Lennie Watts • $550
What happens when you take some great hits, give them a new point of view and a fresh arrangement? Multi-Award-winning director Lennie Watts and musical director Steven Ray Watkins will assign students two vocal classics and the, create one-of-a-kind arrangements of the song specifically for each student.

Other current course offerings include Teen Voice Workshop with Liz Russo, Voice Technique with Liz Russo, Voice Technique with Katya Korny, Audition and Vocal Performance (Professional Level), Audition and Vocal Performance (Professional Level)] with Mark Simon & Eric Michael Gillett, and Audition and Vocal Performance with Eric Michael Gillett.

With a strong emphasis on vocal technique, combined with numerous performance opportunities in a safe and supportive environment, Singers Forum strives to offer a full array of private instruction and group classes for both professional and personal growth.

Utilizing a roster of dynamic and successful teaching artists who each have their own professional singing and musical backgrounds and successful careers in the arts, we have developed our students’ performance skills in a wide variety of vocal styles and genres that range from opera to cabaret, musical theatre to jazz, folk to pop and all genres in between!
