We're offering employers the opportunity to pay for performance and results right now
Bedford, NH and Young America, MN (PRWEB) March 10, 2011
Tangerine Wellness, the first incentive based corporate weight management program and Young America, one of the largest rebate, incentive and engagement marketing companies in the United States, have formed a strategic partnership that enables Young America clients access to the Tangerine Wellness program. In addition, Young America will implement the Tangerine Wellness program for its own employees to help reduce the cost of healthcare and improve the health and productivity of its workforce. Tangerine Wellness is a voluntary incentive-based program that rewards employees based on results and participation in reaching their weight goals and maintaining them for the long term.
As part of the partnership agreement, Young America will provide an array of rewards fulfillment services for Tangerine Wellness participants including pre-paid cards, checks and points and will offer the program as part of its overall employee engagement platform. Young America provides employee and channel incentive programs that increase productivity and retention by rewarding for positive behaviors that benefit both the employer and employee.
In a recent survey of 466 large to midsize employers by the professional services company Towers Watson, 65 percent of respondents said that for 2011 they'll increase incentives to take part in wellness programs. And 62 percent said that by 2012, instead of offering employees incentives to participate in wellness programs like in years past, they would only pay up after they see demonstrated action and results.
"We're offering employers the opportunity to pay for performance and results right now," said Aaron Day, Chairman and CEO of Tangerine Wellness. "Our weight management program is easily implemented, easy to follow and typically has participation rates exceeding 50 percent, compared to other wellness programs that average only 10 to at best a 20 percent participation rate. With Young America at our side, we can confidently expand our offerings and provide the best in customer service. Plus, our new partners will enjoy a healthier 2011 as they participate in the Tangerine Wellness program."
Obesity represents 17 percent of all healthcare costs in the United States. According to a recent study by researchers at Duke University and published in October's Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, obesity is the number one cost driver to employers, costing an estimated $73.1 billion in healthcare costs, lower productivity and higher absenteeism. For employers, the cost of doing business with an unhealthy workforce is forcing many to reduce their coverage. However, employers who have used Tangerine Wellness, some since 2006, continue to see flat or lower healthcare premiums year-over-year, as rewards are designed for long-term participation and results.
"Wellness programs are unique in the employee engagement business and not many incentive companies are able to get high participation levels and results because it is so specialized," said Tim Crank, VP Marketing & Product Management for Young America. "This partnership allows Young America to bring a demonstrated wellness solution that works in corporate settings. The results-based payment scheme is what employers want and it gives us an opportunity to provide even more ROI to our customers. Our value proposition is that we have an array of hearty solutions that drive our customers into positive business metrics, so why have the wellness piece be so cumbersome when it doesn't have to be."
