SDL Trisoft to extend reuse of technical content across marketing, sales and support

SDL's features roadmap aligns very well with the vision and needs of our technical communications team

SDL, (LSE: SDL) the leading provider of Global Information Management solutions, announced today that National Instruments (NI), a global technology solutions provider for engineers and scientists, has selected SDL Trisoft™ to handle the company's expanding volume of technical content in DITA.

National Instruments transforms the way engineers and scientists around the world design, prototype, and deploy systems for test, control, and embedded design applications. From testing next-generation gaming systems to creating breakthrough medical devices, NI customers continuously develop innovative technologies that impact millions of people. With a growing base of global customers and the need to manage many different product releases, NI product marketing and technical communication teams set out to find a way to deliver more information at higher velocity, through more communication channels and in more of their customers' languages. The key was to find a methodology and technology that would enable the sharing and reuse of content between the various areas of the company including marketing, sales and support. After a year-long investigation, NI identified SDL Trisoft as the platform for managing its content.

"SDL's features roadmap aligns very well with the vision and needs of our technical communications team," said Natasa Lingurovska, Product Marketing Manager at National Instruments. We have complex product lines with a great deal of content that is reused across product teams throughout the content development lifecycle. It was essential for us to have a robust versioning solution and SDL Trisoft was the best fit for our needs."

SDL Trisoft's out-of-the-box ability to manage advanced product documentation versions and configurations in multiple languages with the SDL Trisoft Publication baselines was key for the company's demanding agile product development release process. Robust support for the OASIS DITA v1.2 standard was a core requirement including the ability to easily configure specializations and metadata required to meet the unique business needs of National Instruments. The fact that SDL Trisoft came from the same company as SDL Trados®, the product used for translation memory management by NI was an added plus.

"National Instruments has a deep understanding of DITA and a robust vision of how to streamline the management of technical information," said Kevin Duffy, CEO of SDL Structured Content Technologies division. "We are pleased that SDL Trisoft was able to meet the high standards of NI and to satisfy the team's need for a powerful way to manage product documentation variations," Duffy said.

"SDL has been diligent and very responsive to all our questions and needs," said Lingurovska. "Their service and support assured us that SDL is a great technology partner to help us meet our strategic goals."
