"Having common symptoms explained in a video will be very reassuring to patients, and saves the office staff from having to repeatedly answer the same questions," explained Dr. David F. Chang
Towson, MD (PRWEB) March 23, 2011
Eyemaginations, Inc. announced today that it has collaborated once again with Dr. David F. Chang to develop a comprehensive patient education platform that covers post-op instructions and care associated with cataract surgery. The Chang Post Op Cataract Module is designed to help ophthalmologists and their staff members arm patients and their families with a professionally produced audiovisual guide that can be repeatedly watched in the office or at home following cataract surgery. This new module nicely complements the popular preoperative Chang module that explains cataracts and the different refractive IOL options.
“Having common symptoms explained in a video will be very reassuring to patients, and saves the office staff from having to repeatedly answer the same questions,” explained Dr. Chang. “The platform also serves as a visual coach and guide for instilling eye drop medications that can be repeatedly viewed as often as necessary. Finally, the post-op module is designed to improve patient satisfaction by actually explaining and illustrating the steps of the cataract operation. In my experience, viewing a video of cataract surgery is a WOW experience for patients and family members. However, we physicians avoid explaining any details of the surgery preoperatively, to avoid frightening patients who are squeamish at the very thought of instruments in their eye. Postoperatively, the fear is replaced by curiosity, and based on how easy and fast the experience was, patients are surprised and fascinated to learn how much skill was involved in their microsurgery. I have found that making this information available to patients increases their admiration and appreciation of the entire process.”
Jeff Peres, president and CEO of Eyemaginations noted “This new project represents an example of our continued commitment to ophthalmology. We have heard from many physicians that there is an education gap within the area of post-op instructions. We focus very hard on listening to the medical community and, with this new module, we hope to have helped to fill that gap. After the success of our first collaboration with Dr. Chang, it made so much sense to pursue a follow up education initiative.”
Eyemaginations indicates that the new Chang Post Op Cataract module is available within its new ECHO platform. Interested practices can receive a demonstration of ECHO at the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in San Diego between March 25 and 29, at booth #2931 and #2315. Additionally, the new Chang Post Op Cataract module will be free for all of its customers that use the Eyemaginations LUMA software, as the company intends to bundle ECHO with LUMA this spring.
