Carver Western University (http://www.carverwestern.com) announces the start of the Teacher Performance Preparation Courses to TPA1 and TPA 2. Dr. Steven Brownson, an expert who has assessed over 2,000 Teacher Performance Assessment Tests, developed two specialized courses to prepare teacher credential candidates for the exams. “The course takes students through the TPA Tests in a sequential manner,” stated Dr. Brownson. The courses offer a workshop environment combined with practical applications with real-life testing environments. “The simulations involved with the class will prepare teacher credential candidates for success taking the TPA Tests due to the hands-on nature of the course” (Brownson, 2011).

Teacher Performance Assessment 1 covers the foundations for taking the exam. In addition, the two week course offers a self-paced sequential process regarding preparation to pass the TPA1 Subject Specific Pedagogy Exam.

Teacher Performance Assessment 2 focuses on the components for the Designing Instruction Exam. The two week course builds on the foundation of the TPA1 course as the students move to the second level of the exam.

Dr. Brownson has identified several common flaws from the students’ responses to the exam after an intensive analysis and evaluation of thousands of TPAs. “The flaws lead to many teachers needing to retake the test as well as meeting with their TPA Coordinators.” These flaws include the following:

  •     The need for vertical and horizontal integration of the TPA sections
  •     Usage of specific strategies that tell what, how, and why within the instructional plan
  •     Inclusion of specific strategies for the adaptations with the English Language Learners and the Special Needs students

The course includes a money back guarantee if the student does not pass the exam. Each student receives a detailed analysis of their sample TPA 1 or the TPA 2 exam. “The 1-1 aspect of the test either by phone or email allows for a personalized approach to completing the TPAs with a score of 3 or 4."
