In line with its strategic integration and globalization strategy Taminco will build a DMAPA unit at its plant in St. Gabriel, LA, USA which will be on stream by end of 2011.

DMAPA or dimethylaminopropylamine is primarily used as a raw material for amine oxides and betaines both of which are surfactants in a wide variety of personal care and household products, such as detergents, shampoos and liquid body wash. DMAPA based surfactants show strong growth globally, because of the combination of their mild character and excellent performance.

“This new DMAPA capacity in the US is a perfect fit with our integrated amines and derivatives business model”, said Sabine Ketsman, Global Business Director for Taminco’s Specialty Derivatives business unit. “We already produce DMAPA at our unit in Ghent, Belgium, but the rapid growth of DMAPA in the US and Latin America has triggered the need to develop local production to serve the demands of both local and global customers.”

Geoff Ingham, President of Taminco Inc US adds: “Along with our recent announcement to build a tertiary amines plant in Pace, FL, this new investment reinforces Taminco’s commitment to the amines industry, the US, and to the surfactant market.”

On a total of 8 production sites worldwide, Taminco has two major ones in the US: in Pace, FL which makes methylamines, alkyl amines and by mid-2012, tertiary amines and in St. Gabriel, LA which produces alkanolamines, alkyl amines, DEHA, and now DMAPA.
