Semantics, Open Data and Enterprise Data Management: Bridging the Gap in Data Communities at Enterprise Data World 2011

Wilshire Conferences announced a new program within its 2011 Enterprise Data World Conference (EDW 2011) called, “Bridging Data Communities - Semantic Technologies, Open Data and Enterprise Data.” taking place in conjunction with the conference April 4 - 7, 2011 at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel and Towers. The entire EDW event runs from April 3 - 7, 2011.

A full day of sessions and discussions will be offered during the “Bridging Data Communities” program. It educates enterprise customers about the capabilities of semantic technologies so they can understand and seek out semantic solutions for their data management needs. It will help “create a market” for semantic solutions by generating interest and demand amongst enterprise customers. In addition, EDW will be offering an Enterprise Semantics track that will feature sessions by top industry experts an analysts. Dean Allemang of TopQuadrant and William Beauregard of Oracle USA will present a full day tutorial on April 4th from 8:30 - 4:30 entitled, “Semantic Technologies and Linked Data for Enterprise Data Management.” Their session will focus on Semantic Web standards for Enterprise Data Integration and will review the basics of RDF and SPARQL, emphasizing the features that make them particularly suitable for enterprise data integration.

“The Power of One: Bridging Data Communities,” a panel session, will take place April 5th at 1:45 - 2:45 and will compare the similarities and differences of enterprise data management and semantic web approaches. Suzanne Acar, US Federal Data Sub Committee, Kevin Novak, The American Institute of Architects, and Peter Aiken, President of DAMA International will take part.

Alex Miller, Sr. Engineer for Revelytix, Inc. will be presenting a session entitled, “Releasing Relational Data to the Semantic Web,” on April 6th from 8:30 - 9:30. During this discussion Miller will examine each aspect of exposing relational data while focusing on the process of mapping and federation of relational sources, using an outgoing data integration project in the Department of Defense as a case study.

The Enterprise Semantics theme will continue over at SemTech 2011, the world’s largest educational conference for the community of executives, technologists, researchers, investors and customers involved with semantic technologies, June 5 -9, 2011 at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco.
