The Palm Paddle from Complete Fitness Coaching Ltd has only been available for a few months but already it has made its mark on the swimming and triathlon world and is now being used by swimmers training for the 2012 London Olympics.
Matt O’Brien, a member of Team Bath Performance Swim Team and training for selection for the GB team heading to the London Games next year says;
“I really like the Palm Paddles, they help take away the strain from pulling and my hands cannot grip as much water. This makes me think about hand position and helps me memorise which direction my palm should face as I pull on different strokes”
Team Bath Head Coach, Mark Skimming supports the use of Palm Paddles for all swimmers emphasising;
“I get the swimmers to put them on for drills and building good technique. I like the idea that when using them the feel of the water is taken away, then when they take them off again they get a good exaggerated feel”
Created by Martin Hill, an engineer and triathlon coach, the Palm Paddle is designed to help swimmers improve their technique in the water by encouraging the correct hand position and helping to maintain it throughout the stroke. Successful trials with both recreational and professional swimmers led to the Palm Paddle going into production last year and is now available at £20 per pair from the Complete Fitness Coaching website.

Based in Yeovil, Somerset but working with athletes all over the UK and internationally, Complete Fitness Coaching is owned by British Triathlon Federation Coach and Personal Trainer, Martin Hill.
As an active participant in many sports all his life, Martin has competed in on- and off-road running races and triathlons for over 30 years - from 5k road races to marathons and sprint to 8 Ironman triathlons. He still trains and competes at all these distances.
Fitness Coaching & Personal Training for all Abilities
Martin has been actively coaching triathlon and related sports since 2003 and has been a personal trainer since 2007. During this time, Martin has encouraged, introduced and advised well over a hundred new and active participants to sport, in particular triathlon. Experienced in coaching athletes of all abilities, Martin adapts his training approach to suit the client's needs. He works with those just starting out and aiming to complete their first event(s), through to seasoned athletes aiming to qualify in national events and then represent their country at World Championship level – including IM70.3 and Ironman.
Martin has established and runs a very successful triathlon swim group in Yeovil aimed at specifically developing front crawl technique, a vital ingredient to any successful triathlon. This has not only helped triathletes but has expanded to become a Masters swim session helping both beginners and national level athletes. These sessions led Martin to develop the Palm Paddle that helps establish a more effective swim technique.
