CY2010-2011 Crystal & Oscillator

Consulting Services & Associates LLC (CS&A LLC) announces release of its latest Market Reports and Analysis on the Semiconductor Timing Markets covering CY2010 Thru Q1-CY2011 Crystal and Oscillators, and Semiconductor Clock and Timing. These reports detail the full spectrum of Semiconductor Timing; Crystals in KHz and MHz, all Oscillator categories, Semiconductor Clock and Timing and RF Timing support. Combined, these Timing segments represent ~$8 Billion USD in sales for CY2010, with growth in volume in double digits… All timing technologies are included in these reports ranging from Quartz and ceramic, to MEMS, and onto Compensated CMOS…

According to Mark Sherwood, Principal Associate and CEO at CS &A: "CS &A LLC provides a unique methodology in reporting - we call it Top Down/Bottoms up, where we focus on specific semiconductor timing product consumption by Market Segment and then by Application - all with weighted $ASP's to roll up into the TAM and Forecasts… Detail on Timing product consumption and market trends for the Consumer, Communications(Data and TeleCom), Computing (Motherboard and non Motherboard), Industrial, Automotive, Gaming, Medical / Instrumentation and more, are provided in an easy to read and digest format." Mr. Sherwood added; "We expanded our reach in 2010 to include research and analysis of the SerDes (with associated timing) and Video markets. We expanded our team with new industry people in order to add this capability and integrate it into our methodologies and into our expertise. This is a key enabler for us to grow and expand in subsequent years."

CY2010 witnessed a continuation of the consolidation of the supplier base with several acquisitions, and all the while the new MEMS based timing players are poised for entry -
It is not only the SiMEMS resonator startups that are trying to displace quartz Crystals and oscillators, but the all-silicon clock oscillator companies are continuing to make headway. Mobius Microsystems was acquired by IDT, and IDT has made subsequent inroads with the technology. Silicon Labs continues to sell its all-silicon clock oscillator and it appears they continue to win sockets. Now expanding into MEMS after acquiring Silicon Clocks, SiLabs new products using MEMS are expected in the first half of CY2011. In early 2011, they acquired SpectraLinear, adding to the mix.

A new company which emerged in 2009, eoSemi, with claims that it has developed compensated RC technology which is initially focused on kHz clocks, and now has plans to sample in the first half of 2011. Silego too, continues their push into 32 KHz with their own Compensated RC, Sand9 announces sampling, and Multigig makes some headway in their private label deal with Micrel and makes direct and measureable progress into FCP (Frequency Control Products).

Mr. Sherwood added; "CY2010 was characterized by a high rate of MnA activities which included more than 10 deals in 2010 thru today. In Semiconductor Clock & Timing, Merger and Acquisition activities included ON Semi, Silicon Labs, and IDT among others, expanding efforts to increase the portfolios and gain new technologies -

From a Market perspective; CY2010 showed growth across the board in Communications, Computing, Industrial and Consumer creating a record 2010. Volumes look to be up almost 18% YoY, and CY2010 Semiconductor Timing revenues were; ~2.4Billion USD, and RF Timing Support with ~$1.7 Billion USD in revenues. Combined with Xtal and Oscillator $revenues of ~$3.4Billion, show Semiconductor Timing $$Revenues of ~$7.5B USD for the year." With respect to the supplier base, IDT remains king of the hill in $ revenues and in mix through CY2010 with both TI and On Semi battling for second position.

CS&A's analysis and findings are available in its "CY2010-2011 Crystal & Oscillator" report and the CY2010-2011 Semiconductor Clock & Timing report. The reports provide a detailed and unique look at the full spectrum of the Semiconductor Timing market providing TAM, detailed consumption, and forecasts for all major product categories, plus supplier market shares.

According to Mr. Sherwood; "Combining our unique top down/bottoms up methodology, market trends, actual's; by product category, product segment, and technology, supplier base detail, TAM, Forecast and technologies employed, CS &A creates what we call the "Timing MarketScape," providing a unique and full spectrum view of this dynamic market. - This is truly unique in the industry, and we believe we are the only group able to do so today."

Reports are available in Single User and Enterprise licenses. A combined version including; Semiconductor Clock and timing/RF Timing support, and Crystal / Oscillators is also available. Enterprise licensees also get updates at Q3 and Q4 during the calendar year plus 2 hours of report related consult. In addition, Supplier dossiers, which complement with the reports, can be purchased separately.

Expanding our Portfolio in 2011;
