According to Greenberg, applications to many selective colleges are at an all-time high while acceptance rates are declining rapidly. He added, “Many selective colleges are now accepting less than 20% of their applicants and some of the most competitive colleges are accepting less than 10% of their applicants.” Mitler also cited that a recent study from the National Association of College and Employers (NACE) reporting that more that 75% of those graduating from college in May 2010 who were seeking jobs were unemployed at graduation.

“Paying for college in today’s extraordinary economic environment also presents many challenges,” says Germain. “The cost of a four-year private college education continues to soar and has passed the $150,000 mark at many institutions, not to mention cuts in education budgets, state aid and university endowments caused by the recent recession. The goal of the Beacon Educational Conference is to present strategies to students and their families for maximizing college admissions, preparing to get hired, and financing the journey. It is a contemporary and important topic for anyone looking to be ahead of the curve.”
