Next to chocolate, lemon is the second most popular customer flavor at The Swiss Colony. For spring, the sugar-scented bakery has introduced several new lemon treats.
Specialty Food Magazine wrote in its January/February issue that trendspotters at the recent Fancy Food Show noted that exotic citrus and nostalgic foods should be hot in 2011.
Becky Henke, vice president of food at The Swiss Colony said, “While we specialize in quality chocolates - we made sure to have citrus and nostalgic trends covered this season. Our product development team baked up noteworthy creations for spring that are already getting rave reviews including the new Luscious Lemon Cheesecake and Lemon Petits Fours.”
Henke and her team visit The Fancy Food show twice a year for inspiration. Other new citrus standouts include a new nostalgic Orange Dreamsicle Cake and fruity cocktail-inspired Jelly Belly® petits fours.
To those for whom summer can’t come quick enough, a real knock out is the new Watermelon-Style Cake. Watch out “Cake Boss,” this delight looks exactly like half of a watermelon. When sliced, the cake has alternating red and white layers with chocolate chip “seeds” sprinkled throughout.
Coconut also makes a strong tropical statement with new Toasted Coconut Mini Cupcakes. The cake has toasted coconut flavor and the icing is drizzled with toasted angel flake coconut. The Pastel Coconut Petits Fours are also new and would be an excellent addition to an Easter holiday dinner table, Mother’s Day event or a festive addition to a bridal or baby shower.
