ActiveOver50 (http://www.ActiveOver50.com), the #1 magazine for the active 50+ consumer in Northern California, features Senior Games bike racer Barbara Gicquel, 71, on the cover of its latest issue.
At age 62 when most people slow down, Barbara took up bike racing after riding and competing with horses for eight years. As a bike racer, she's won a ton of medals competing in Senior Nationals and World games. Even a serious bike accident in 2008 that left a titanium rod in her leg hasn't slowed her down.
Every day, she rides between one and two hours. As the race season approaches, she typically rides 100K every other weekend.
"I love the thrill of competition and trying to become the best rider in my age group," said Barbara, also known as BJ. "Winning races, setting records--those are my goals." She competes in the Bay Area Senior Games March 26-April 3 at Stanford University, Palo Alto along with 2,000 other 50+ athletes.
She also works 20 hours a week as a marriage and family therapist.
Besides profiling BJ, the latest issue of ActiveOver50 includes famed columnist Dr. Walter M. Bortz, ll, discussing his new book: Next Medicine and Evie Preston, The Money Lady, providing sage advice on retirement investing and saving.
Founded in 2005, ActiveOver50 is a media company offering an array of products including a TV series with NBC Bay Area, a magazine, a newsletter and website.
ActiveOver50's print magazine is written for active 50+ consumers who are working, seeking work, thinking of retiring or leading active retired lives. It is available in print or online and reaches over 200,000 active 50+ readers worldwide.
