TW Perry, a Washington area institution in the building materials industry, has a winning recipe for success that includes running the company like a family business, providing great customer service, and bringing in the best and brightest minds in the industry. Marking its 100th anniversary, TW Perry continues to grow by doing what it does best.

"The current team at TW Perry is certainly proud of the legacy that we are carrying forth,” said Michael Cassidy, President and CEO. “Even as we celebrate our past successes, we are focused on making TW Perry the best company it can be."

TW Perry, the leading independent building materials dealer in the mid-Atlantic, is proudly celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2011. Crediting its loyal customers and outstanding employees for the company’s longevity, TW Perry has continually adapted to the times and has demonstrated that success is driven by teamwork and innovation.

“People often ask how an independent, locally owned company like ours has managed to survive so long,” said Edward J. Quinn, Chairman. “We would not be in business today if it were not for our loyal customers. They told us what they wanted and we delivered. We stayed innovative and consistently delivered the best quality products with exceptional service at fair prices. And we have the best team in the residential business industry. We never stop looking for ways to improve.”

This hometown success story began in 1911 when Thomas W. Perry opened a feedstock operation in Chevy Chase, Maryland when the area was still a rural outpost. He started selling coal then lumber, and with the growth of suburbia in the 1950s and 1960s, the business expanded rapidly. Other locations were added, including one in Gaithersburg, Maryland in 1985 that became the first “home center” in the area, serving both contractors and homeowners. In the mid-1990s, Tom Perry, Jr. and Quinn repositioned the company to better serve professional contractors, homebuilders, and remodelers.

In 1999, a group of senior management personnel purchased the company from the Perry family. TW Perry now has six locations, including its custom mill shop, serving Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. It offers a full range of building products, including lumber, windows, doors, hardware, decking, railing, paint, power tools, and more than 250 in-stock moulding profiles.

“The current team at TW Perry is certainly proud of the legacy that we are carrying forth,” said Michael Cassidy, President and CEO. “Even as we celebrate our past successes, we are focused on making TW Perry the best company it can be. There has never been a more talented and dedicated team in place than we have right now and you'll see great things from us in the coming decades. We will remain a nationally recognized industry leader and we will continue to provide our customers with access to experienced staff and a level of service that the big box retailers can never hope to achieve. We are eager to write the next pages in the TW Perry history book.”

At 100 years old, TW Perry is more vital than ever, leading the way in product and industry knowledge. The company is committed to educating its customers and keeping them informed of the latest trends and innovations. It is a Green Certified Dealer™ through LBM Journal and has achieved FSC certification and SFI Chain-of-Custody certification, making it one of the few building materials dealers in the country to attain dual certification. TW Perry was named 2011 Outstanding Dealer of the Year by the Southern Building Material Association and 2011 Entrepreneurial Dealer of the Year by LBM Journal, received a 2010 ProSales Excellence Award, and was selected as a 2010 recipient of The Gazette of Politics and Business’ Exceptional 53 Award.

TW Perry has a long record for giving back to the community. These efforts include Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, a nonprofit that repairs the homes of low-income elderly and disabled homeowners. The company also donates materials to worthy causes, including multiple initiatives supporting members of the armed forces and their families, such as the Yellow Ribbon Fund.

Throughout 2011, TW Perry is hosting a series of events, including its highly successful 3rd Annual Green Building Workshop (which was held on March 17), its first homeowner-driven show (“All About the Home” Show on April 2), and Spring and Fall Contractor Days. To thank its customers, TW Perry will host Open House receptions at all locations in September. Visit for details.
