Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) March 24, 2011
EMD Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA* of Germany, is proud to sponsor a lecture series featuring world-renowned proteomics researcher Dr. Reudi Aebersold. The series includes two lectures: “Quantitative Proteomics and Systems Biology” on April 12, 2011, and “Mass Spectrometric Methods to Measure Dynamic Protein Interaction Networks” on April 13, 2011. Both lectures begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Health Sciences Education Center Auditorium, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
Dr. Aebersold is Professor, Molecular Systems Biology at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on developing new methods and technologies for quantitative proteomics, and on applying this emerging technology to enhance our understanding of the structure, function, and control of complex biological systems. Current applications of quantitative proteomics technology are directed to the discovery of protein markers that differentiate cancer cells from their normal counterparts, to the investigation of the mechanisms of fundamental cellular processes by the comparative analysis of the gene and protein expression profiles in cells at different states, and to systems biology studies.
The work of Dr. Aebersold’s group has been recognized by numerous awards, most recently the Otto Naegeli Prize in Switzerland, the Herbert Sober award by ASBMB, the FEBS Buchner medal and the ASMS Bieman Award.
This lectureship series continues a 38-year partnership between EMD Millipore (formerly EMD Chemicals and Calbiochem®) and UCSD in support of the life science research community. EMD Millipore’s Calbiochem portfolio of research reagents, which is well known among researchers studying disease states and signal transduction, includes enzyme inhibitors, biochemicals, proteins, application-tested antibodies and assay kits.
