Chef Emily Hartop joined Southern California celebrated coffee roaster Klatch Coffee. Hartop’s culinary expertise will enhance Klatch's award-winning drip coffee and espresso experience to new and existing wholesale customers.
Hartop’s transition from the Riverside City College Culinary Academy kitchen to the Klatch coffee bar is going to be effortless with her great passion for coffee. Her experience goes beyond the Culinary Academy as she has taught courses for Riverside County, the University of California Riverside, and Goodwin's Organics, among others. Hartop is also active member in local chapters of both Slow Food and the American Culinary Federation.
With Klatch, Hartop will be utilizing her culinary expertise to implement a new palate program by pairing coffee and food together. “Palate training and the creation of flavor profiles are important for chefs in the kitchen. These are the same things that are important in coffee but the challenge is greater because we are working with a single but very complex ingredient - the coffee bean,” said Hartop.
In addition, she will be teaching the barista techniques of Klatch's two-time United States Barista Champion Heather Perry. Those techniques include drink development, espresso extraction, Bru-Bar and latte art, to name a few. Hartop also plans to use her multi-faceted culinary talents to improve the coffee programs of Klatch wholesale clients and create a curriculum for culinary courses on coffee through the Klatch brand.
