iPatientCare EHR successfully demonstrated interoperability at the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase via its Health Information Exchange (HIE) platform within care settings such as primary care physician (PCP) offices, targeted referrals and quality and research initiatives.

The interoperability showcase featured a set of real-world scenarios (Use Cases) that help healthcare professionals understand how Integrating Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) based standards improve delivery of care. For example, the iPatientCare solution was featured in a scenario that traced the workflow of a patient referral summary built on top of personal health record updates made by a patient. The record was then updated by PCP and shared with a specialist over the HIE network which connects Communities of Care, providing a concrete example of IHE’s Patient Care Coordination and IT Infrastructure profiles in action.

Interoperability among such IHE profiles is the key to achieving ARRA HITECH “meaningful use.” Other scenarios with iPatientCare participation featured creating targeted referrals to specialists who would be found through the Healthcare Provider Directory sponsored by Government agencies such as the Social Security Administration and serving as an FDA Reporting partner in case of adverse drug events.

HIMSS11 has been one of the biggest stages in the industry to showcase Health IT vendors’ new abilities and offerings, and this year the Interoperability pavilion of the event featured 78 participants, 102 connected systems, over 4,000 visitors and hundreds of Use Case tours that took the visitors through the interoperability scenarios. iPatientCare solutions were featured in over 50 such tours, and the company participants at the showcase impressed the organizers through their uptake of a good number of Use Case assignments, even being one of the first time participants at the showcase.

“iPatientCare has demonstrated its commitment to interoperability as one of the most comprehensive IHE based ambulatory Healthcare IT (HIT) solution available,” remarked Udayan Mandavia, CEO of iPatientCare. "iPatientCare HIE is committed to expanding its capabilities for further IHE standards and rolling out the wider benefits to provider and patient communities via iPatientCare integration engine, enterprise master patient index, physician and patient portals, data repository, customizable notifications and analytical and quality reporting."

IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare connect and share information. Earlier this year, iPatientCare EHR test-proved its IHE integration capabilities at North America Connectathon 2011, which is HIT industry’s largest interoperability testing event.
