Leading Technology Integrator Installs Navy Dental Digital Imaging (DDI) Solution throughout all NNMC Dental Departments

Force 3, delivering innovative data center, unified communications and security solutions, today announced the deployment completion of the Navy’s Dental Digital Imaging (DDI) solution throughout the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda (NNMC).

The deployment consisted of Navy DDI installation and training throughout all Dental Departments at NNMC Bethesda including Camp David, the Executive Building, and the White House. The National Naval Medical Center is one of the nation’s largest and most renowned military medical centers, best known for its history of providing care to war heroes and presidents alike for the past 65 years. The project on-site installation and training started on January 31, 2011 and was successfully completed on February 18th.

The Navy DDI solution uses state-of-the-art technology to take digital radiographs that eliminate the amount of radiation exposure to both patient and Technicians by approximately 50 percent. Digital radiographs also allow Navy Dental Providers at sites around the world to view, manipulate, and share digital images, ultimately making it easier to diagnose and treat dental diseases.

The process of taking a radiograph with Navy DDI is very similar to the traditional X-ray film process, making the transition to digital relatively easy for dental technicians. Once the patient is prepared, the technician exposes the digital X-ray sensor to a small amount of radiation and the Apteryx software program captures the high-quality image. Once the digital image is captured it can be enhanced to view in more detail, saved, and shared throughout all NNMC Bethesda Dental Departments.

Additional Benefits of the Digital Dental Imaging Solution include:

  •     Improved efficiency and convenience during dental appointments
  •     Elimination of hazardous waste film processing materials
  •     Lower long-term costs

The complete solution includes integration of Dell servers and workstations, Microsoft and Symantec server software, Apteryx imaging software, and various digital imaging capture devices. Force 3 installed servers and other DDI equipment, integrated the technologies, and provided software and training services from various dental vendors such as Kodak, Planmeca, Apteryx, Rimage, and Air Techniques. By Spring 2011, the Navy DDI solution will be installed at every navy Dental Clinic worldwide, successfully transitioning them from a film-based to dental digital imaging environment.

Specifically, Force 3 was responsible for project management and engineering services including managing all vendors, planning and site surveying, installation, training and support.
