Carrboro, NC (PRWEB) March 28, 2011
The President of ethics hotline provider Ethical Advocate, Jacob Blass, will conduct a discussion on the Board’s Role in the Ethical Culture of the Organization during the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business Directors’ Institute on April 6-8, 2011. The Directors’ Institute, according to the organization website, “provides substantive instruction to participants allowing them to refresh and refine their knowledge while engaging with peers to develop best boardroom practices.”
The session will help board members communicate effectively with each other and the CEO and understand the ethical and compliance risks an organization may face while doing business in today’s economy. Is it sufficient to have an Ethics/Compliance Officer in management, to provide ethics training for employees, and to develop community/social programs? What role does the Board have in promoting an ethical and compliance culture? This session will teach how to create or adapt an effective ethics and compliance process to improve the overall performance of the firm.
The Directors’ Institute will be held at the Ronald Reagan International Conference Center in Washington, D.C.. With insight from leading industry, legal, and financial services experts, government policy-makers, and academic authorities from the University of Maryland and other leading institutions, “the Directors’ Institute offers participants a broad framework for making informed board decisions, exercising sound business judgment and developing leadership for members of the boardroom. Attendees will interact with and learn from leading industry experts and academic professionals, who have successfully navigated and researched the most pressing issues facing corporate boards today.”
Prior to assuming the Presidency of Ethical Advocate, Jacob was President and CEO of four complex healthcare companies. Companies that he has led have been consistently recognized for their product excellence, including national recognition for best in class. Jacob has consulted to several multi-national companies on leadership, and the integration of organizational values, purpose and goals. He has served on the Boards of numerous organizations.
